Orthodontic materials can also cause allergies

During orthodontic treatment, metals or metal alloys and plastics (acrylates) are sometimes introduced into the oral cavity over a long period of time. The components contained in these materials can also cause allergies.

The immune system of sensitized patients responds to contact with the corresponding metals/plastics with immune activation. This can manifest itself in local symptoms but can also cause or intensify systemic inflammatory reactions.

What to do?

In case of suspicion of a high allergic potential of a patient, samples of the used materials can be examined in advance in a special test - the so-called laboratory test LTT (Lymphocyte Transformation Test). In this case we will provide you with samples of the materials used.

Note: This is especially relevant for the materials of the permanent retainers, as they should remain in your mouth for a long period of time.

Start with a preliminary consultation

To ensure optimal and effective treatment, a consultative preliminary discussion and a comprehensive assessment of the patient's condition is a prerequisite.

A suitable and individually tailored course of treatment can only be determined for you after an exact diagnosis has been made and your individual wishes have been expressed. The necessary means of treatment and their costs will be arranged especially for you.
